Transition Times: Video Art from Central Europe

The annual photography fair, Paris Photo is one of the world's foremost showcase events for the still image. In 2010 Paris Photo is focusing on five Central European countries - Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. 

The video program of the fair - introducing each year video art of the countries in the spotlight - is curated by Rita Kálmán and Tijana Stepanovic from ACAX | Ludwig Museum. The screening program entitled Transition Times: Video Art from Central Europe is a thematic selection of video works produced in the period 1989-2009.

In addition ACAX produced a guide about contemporary Hungarian photography in order to introduce the Hungarian photography scene to the visitors of the fair.

In her lecture Zoë Gray will talk about her curatorial practice at Witte de With where she has worked for the past five years, focusing on two solo exhibitions: the Marcel Duchamp Prix holder Saadane Afif’s Technical Specifications (2008) and Cosima von Bonin’s (2010 ongoing).

The Transitland digital archive - including 100 video works, produced in the period 1989-2009, reflecting the transformations in post-Socialist Central and Eastern Europe - will be screened at videospritz, the international video art presentation program organised by Trieste Contemporanea between the 16-20. October 2010.

Besides the screenings Transitland project co-organizers Rita Kálmán and Tijana Stepanović will introduce the Transitland Archive alongside with the accompanying publication published by ACAX | Ludwig Museum in 2009.
The public lecture will take place at Trieste, auditorium Museo Revoltella, via Diaz 27 on SATURDAY, October 16, 2010, 5.30 pm.
